No! We welcome complete beginners. Many of our most successful rowers started with zero experience. We'll teach you everything you need to know about rowing technique, safety, and teamwork.

There are many qualities that make up a good rower; some of the most important being determination, competitiveness, and the drive to succeed. Rowing is a strength-endurance explosive sport.

Coxswains are competitive individuals who can take charge of a situation and have the desire to lead and motivate themselves and their teammates. Usually on the smaller and lighter side, they are in charge of steering the boat, challenging the crew, and implementing the practice and race plans. Like the jockey in a horse race, the coxswain is crucial in the sport of rowing. On race day, they are in charge and make all the calls.

If you're interested in being a coxswain, we encourage you to reach out! Coxswains are an integral part of our team, and we're always looking for more.

We practice 6 days a week for about 2-2.5 hours each session. Weekend regattas occur during racing season, with opportunities to travel across the country. It's a significant commitment, but the friendships and experiences make it truly worthwhile.

We expect you to come to as many practices as possible, but we can usually make accommodations if you have evening classes on some days, etc. We encourage our athletes to do their best to avoid signing up for evening classes in the spring semester, if possible.

Central Florida Rowing is the only opportunity for men's rowing on campus. Although in name we are a club sport, men's rowing is not an NCAA-sanctioned sport, so the highest level of rowing at most universities is in fact club rowing. We exist alongside the UCF varsity women's rowing team, with whom we share the boathouse.

Our team enters both men's and women's club categories, racing against local rivals like UF, FSU, and USF, as well as other great teams from around the country like UVA, UMich, etc. We accept athletes of all genders and are committed to fostering an inclusive environment for all members.
